5 Things to Do to Your Hair Before You Blow Dry

Want a salon-quality blowout at home? Proper preparation is the key to achieving smooth, voluminous hair that lasts. Here are five essential steps to take before picking up that blow dryer:

  1. Shampoo and condition properly. Having a clean base is crucial for a flawless finish. Shampoo at least twice to remove product buildup and excess oils, and use conditioner sparingly to avoid weighing down your hair.

  2. Spray in a detangler. A leave-in conditioner like Vitamino Color Leave-In Spray smooths the cuticle, reduces frizz, and helps the comb glide through your hair without causing breakage.

  3. Use a wide-toothed comb or wet brush. Tugging on wet hair with a fine-toothed comb can cause snapping. A wide-toothed comb or a wet brush will detangle gently without unnecessary breakage.

  4. Apply styling products. Whether you want volume, heat protection, or sleekness, using the right products is crucial. Skipping this step could mean your hair won’t hold its shape or achieve the desired texture.

  5. Evenly distribute your products. There’s nothing worse than blow-drying a clump of mousse or gel into your hair. Use your hands or a comb to ensure everything is spread evenly for a smooth and consistent finish.
