Welcome!
If you've got questions about your gray journey, you're in the right place.
What is a Gray Blending Specialist?
Gray blending isn't about forcing you into a look you saw on Instagram. It's about discovering what actually works for your face, your skin tone, and where you are in your journey right now. Some clients come in wanting to blend their gray, some want to go lighter, some just want help figuring out what feels true to them. My job is to coach you through that process, listen to what you're experiencing, and adjust as we go. Because honestly, what looks amazing in week one might feel different in week twelve, and that's exactly what we talk through together. You'll walk out of here feeling not just seen, but actually cared for.
Am I a good candidate for Gray Blending?
If you're lying awake wondering whether you have enough gray, or the right kind of gray, or whether you're even ready—you are. There's no wrong place to start. Every single client who sits in my chair is a good candidate for gray blending because it's not about fitting a certain mold. It's about meeting you exactly where you are. When you come in, I spend the first part of our time together just getting to know you—what you love about your hair, what's driving you crazy, how often you want to see me, and where you want to go from here. From that conversation, we build something that makes sense for your life right now. And if that changes, we change with it. Once you book your appointment, I'll send you a short consultation form so we can get a head start. You'll share a little about your hair history, a photo of where you are now, and an inspiration photo if you have one—no pressure if you don't. That way when you walk through the door, we're already one step ahead and your time in the chair is spent on you, not paperwork.
How is gray blending different from just covering my gray?
Most women who've been covering their gray for years know one thing—they don't want to see it. And that's completely valid. Full gray coverage means one rich color applied to your roots, usually every four to six weeks, to keep every strand out of sight. It works, but over time it can start to look flat, almost shoe-polish heavy at the root, with little dimension or movement.
Gray blending is different. Instead of fighting your gray, we work with it. Using two or more tones—whether that's foils, hand painting, or a more transparent root color—we create a result that has depth, dimension, and a softness that looks like it grew that way. A little gray peeking through isn't a flaw, it's actually what makes the whole thing feel natural. And because we're not trying to cover every single strand, you get more time between appointments.
The best part? There's no one-size-fits-all answer. When you come in for the first time, we talk about what you actually want to see when you look in the mirror—and what you don't. From there we figure out together which approach makes the most sense for you right now.
Will gray blending work for my hair type or hair color?
Whether your temples are completely white, your hair has gotten too dark from years of covering, or your gray is showing up in all the wrong places—there's a solution for all of it. Gray blending works for virtually every hair type and color situation, and part of my job is figuring out exactly which approach makes sense for you.
If your temples are white but your crown is still dark, we blend those two worlds together so the contrast looks intentional and beautiful instead of uneven. If your hair has gotten too dark over the years from trying to cover every gray strand, we soften that and bring some dimension back around your face so it doesn't feel so heavy. If you prefer to stay dark, we work with that too—adding deeper tones through your gray instead of lighter ones so everything feels cohesive and natural.
One of the things I do that most clients never even notice is that I always weave in whatever your hair's natural fade looks like. That way, when summer comes and you're sitting in the sun, at the beach, or at the pool, your color doesn't fall apart—it just evolves. You don't have to protect it or worry about it. Go live your life. Come back when you're ready and we'll blend away whatever you've created together.
That's the whole point. You shouldn't have to think about your hair between appointments. That's my job.
Where in Rocky River can I get dimensional touch-ups?
If you're looking for dimension touch ups in Rocky River, Ohio, Hair by Beth Younkin in the Beachcliff Market Square area specializes in exactly that. But these aren't your average root touch ups.
What I create is a root color that is intentionally dimensional—meaning it's not one flat, solid shade painted on from root to end. Instead, it's a carefully crafted blend that looks rich and natural coming out of the salon and actually gets more beautiful as it fades. Depending on your natural hair color and tone, that fade can evolve into soft caramel highlights or even sun-kissed blonde pieces over time. No extra appointments needed. The sun does the work for you.
This is what I call gray blending express coverage—a quicker, more efficient service designed for the woman who knows what she wants, values her time, and still expects a result that looks like it took all day. Most appointments are completed in sixty to ninety minutes without sacrificing an ounce of quality.
I've been a color specialist for nearly thirty years, working exclusively in color in a private one on one suite in Rocky River. Women drive from all over the Cleveland area and beyond to experience this level of personalized color care—and once they do, they rarely go anywhere else.
If you're tired of flat, high maintenance color and want something that works with your life instead of against it, I'd love to be your colorist. New guests can start the booking process right here on my website, where you'll find everything you need to know before your first appointment.
