I’m 65 — Should I Still Color My Hair?

One of the most common questions women ask once they reach their 60s is whether they should continue coloring their hair.

The assumption is often that gray hair automatically replaces color at a certain age. But modern hair services have changed that conversation completely.

There Is No Age Rule

Hair color has never been about age. It has always been about preference.

Some women feel more like themselves when their gray is blended softly into lighter tones. Others prefer the polished look of consistent gray coverage. Neither choice is right or wrong.

The goal is simply to create a look that supports the person wearing it.

Why Many Women Choose Blending Later

As gray increases, many women find that soft blending feels easier to maintain than solid coverage. Highlights and lighter tones reduce contrast and allow gray to grow in naturally.

This approach often extends time between appointments and creates a softer appearance.

Coverage Is Still a Beautiful Choice

Other women prefer consistent gray coverage because they enjoy the richness and depth it brings to their hair.

Modern color techniques allow gray to be covered quickly and safely while maintaining healthy hair.

Confidence Is the Real Goal

The best hair decisions are rarely about age.

They’re about choosing the option that feels aligned with how you want to show up in the world.
